for IMRF Members, IMRF Employers, Public Officials, Media and General Public


With a team of approximately 200 dedicated people, IMRF staff members administer three benefit plans with two benefit tiers.

Working together, the IMRF staff and Board of Trustees have the responsibility to protect the Fund and, consequently, the retirement of thousands of members.

What We Do

In order to be the best-funded statewide pension plan in Illinois, IMRF recruits top-notch talent. Our essential positions include:

Benefits Department

Pay retirement, disability, death, and refund claims
Prepare reciprocal retirement estimates
Administer disability program
Monitor and control claims in process
Perform disability and other service audits
Provide user support for all systems used by Benefits staff

Finance Department

Legal Department

Legal: provide legal advice to all IMRF departments, offer counsel to the Board, review investment contracts, defend and prosecute lawsuits.

Communications: create and distribute public information about IMRF, develop documentation for staff, implement internal communications, maintain the IMRF intranet and website, conduct research of members and employers through surveys and focus groups, connect with users through online social media.

Legislation: pursue IMRF’s efforts toward the passage of legislation favorable to IMRF; defeat unfavorable legislation.

Field Services

Seven Field Representatives provide information and assistance to members and employers by conducting member presentations, Authorized Agent workshops, compliance reviews, etc.

Member Services

15 Member Service Representatives are available at 1-800-ASK-IMRF (1-800-275-4673) from 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Monday through Friday to answer members’ and employers’ questions

Office Services

Records - Maintain member electronic imaging systems, and employer files; verifies accuracy of member enrollment documents
Mail Services - Process incoming and outgoing mail; maintain receiving and stocking; issue office supplies; responsible for messenger services.

Office space - Acquisition and design of office space
Premises and equipment maintenance
Copy Shop - Reproduction and bindery
